Themes

This course will be organized around five themes:


Education as Innovation


How are notions of education diffused throughout the globe? How does education contribute to agriculture development? During this sections of the course, the previous themes will be discussed using the framework of Roger's classic model of Diffusion of Innovation



Access to Education and Employment

What are the barriers to accessing a quality education? In this section of the class we will explore common barriers including poverty, gender, conflict and race and ethnicity. Factors and issues related to the quality of education and employment will also be addressed.










Program Planning and Evaluation



This section of the class will entail a brief look into how to plan formal and non-formal agricultural education programs. The class will design a project to meet a specific need in another country, and then receive feedback after the program is conducted.Types of Agriculture Education

In this section of the course we will explore common types of formal and non-formal education taking place in developing countries. Guest speakers will be utilized for their first-hand experience with specific program








Spaces of Innovation

What innovative solution are there for agriculture education in developing countries? Should educational programming in developing countries be modeled after what takes place in the developed world? This section of the course will explore different points of view related to education in developing nations and possible for innovation.
